I bought a wrecked Mercedes C63 last year a rebuilt it into a black series replica. But i haven't been able to drive it for a long time due to a unsolvable issue. He’s already got up close & personal with the AMG C63, but the time has finally come for Mat to get behind the wheel and drive it! Now there’s no denying that the new C63 looks great! Up front, there are a number of design changes, including a newly designed front bumper that comes fitted with some huge air intakes, along with an updated bonnet that includes an all-new outlet vent. The good looks continue around the back, too, with a new deeper rear bumper coupled with an AMG-exclusive diffuser. There’s also a bootlip spoiler, coupled with the option to add carbon fibre trim, should you so wish. So it may look good, but there is one BIG talking point about this all-new AMG. The V8 is GONE, and it’s been replaced by a 2-litre 4-cylinder hybrid!! Don’t worry though, it’s not all bad. The power output has increased by 150hp, with the engine and electric motor combining to deliver 680hp and 1,020Nm of torque! It can also fly to 60mph in just 3.4 seconds… Although of course, Mat’s going to see if he can hit that mark even quicker! So what do you think - could this be the greatest AMG of all time? The 2024 Mercedes-AMG C63 S ($ not yet announced) may look quite familiar, but it has seen some significant changes over the outgoing model. Gone is the V8, and in its stead is the most powerful production four-cylinder engine in the world - aided further by electric power. This pumps up the new AMG C63 S to a massive 671 horsepower and 752 lb ft of torque. However it has some serious weight it needs to handle along with all of that power. This is the new 2020 Mercedes-AMG C63 S Coupe, and it meets its W204 elder, the 2013 Mercedes Benz C63 which costs less and still offers V8 thrills. Both are rear-wheel drive, and both fulfil the role of an icon. The 2013 hits 60 mph in 4.4 seconds and the new one does it in 3.7 seconds. It’s a car of massive, mighty numbers, the new Mercedes-AMG C63. Take the power outputs: 680 metric horsepower (or 670bhp), and a frankly baffling 752lb ft of torque. Welcome to a world where a Mercedes C-Class has more power than a Ferrari Enzo. Yet it’ll also do a claimed 34 miles per gallon and emit just 156g/km of CO2 – about the same as a Golf GTI. And that’s because instead of a thumping great V8, the C63 now has a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, and F1-inspired hybrid boost under its nostrilled bonnet. 80 per cent of the 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo engine is carried over from the mad, bad A45 S hot hatch. What’s new is an electric motor for spooling up the turbo. This is designed to eliminate turbo lag and increase output – and means a relatively tiny engine generates 460bhp. That’s almost as much as you used to get from the old 6.2-litre V8… AMG claims 0-62mph happens in 3.4 seconds, and the top speed is limited to 174mph. Very fast, no doubt – but the current BMW M3 is just as quick, despite having ‘only’ 503bhp. The right call? Something tells us this is 2022’s most divisive new fast car. Mat’s lining up in his long-termer BMW M3, which is powered by a 3-litre twin-turbo straight-six that can put down 510hp & 650Nm of torque. It weighs in at 1,730kg and if you’re looking to pick one up, it’ll set you back at least £75,000. On the opposite side of the strip, we have our newest long-termer, the Audi RS5 Sportback. It may be slightly down on power, producing 450hp & 600Nm from its 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6, but it has one advantage over the M3 - it’s equipped with Quattro all-wheel-drive! The weight is almost identical, at 1,745kg, and it’s also slightly cheaper, at £71,000. Then finally we have the AMG C63 Black Series! It’s housing a monstrous 6.2-litre naturally-aspirated V8 under the bonnet, which can put down 517hp & 620Nm. It’s the lightest car here, at 1,710kg, but it’ll also cost you the most (in 2021, at least), with a price tag of £110,000. So, how will this one play out? Will the classic C63 Black snatch it? It’s time for an old school, naturally-aspirated drag race! We’ve got Mat sat in the B8 Audi RS4, and he’s lining up alongside a W204 AMG C63 and a BMW M3 E90! While the RS4’s packing a 4.2-litre V8 that’ll produce 450hp, the C63 rolls up with a 6.2-litre V8 that’ll produce 460hp! As for the M3, under the bonnet, you’ll find a 4-litre V8 with 420hp! Спереди хватает изменений в дизайне, включая обновлённый передний бампер с большими воздухозаборниками и новый капот с отверстием для вентиляции. Позади тоже картина неплохая: заниженный бампер в сочетании с характерным для AMG диффузором. Есть и спойлер на крышке багажника, который при желании можно взять и в карбоновом исполнении. В общем, выглядит машина красиво, но есть один СЕРЬЁЗНЫЙ момент, который у этого нового AMG обязательно нужно упомянуть: V8 больше НЕТ, на смену ему пришёл 2-литровый 4-цилиндровый гибрид!! Но не стоит переживать, не всё так плохо. Отдача силовой установки выросла на 150 л.с. - ДВС и электромотор теперь выдают 680 л.с. и 1020 Нм момента! Также авто теперь разгоняется до 96 км/ч всего за 3,4 сек… Впрочем, это Мэт, разумеется, проверит сам - и высока вероятность, что его результат будет ещё лучше! Thanks to 🤍 for lending us his C63! We’ve got our hands on the all-new Audi RS4 Competition, and it’s going head-to-head against its key rivals - the BMW M3 Touring, and the Mercedes-AMG C63 Estate! Okay, it might be the old C63 Estate, but while we don’t have the latest gen in the UK yet, this is the best we could do! So let’s see how the three compare. Starting with the Audi, it’s powered by a 2.0-litre twin-turbo V7 that can produce 450hp and 600Nm of torque. This power output may be the same as the old car, but it comes with a retuned gearbox that should help it both shift quicker and improve its launch! Power is sent to all four wheels via the gearbox, and it weighs in at 1,745kg. It also rolls up with a price tag of around £85,000. Alongside it we have the BMW. It’s packing a 3-litre twin-turbo straight-six under the bonnet which is good for 510hp and 650Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox, and it tips the scales at 1,865kg. It’s a bit more pricey than the Audi, costing around £87,000. Then finally we have the AMG. It’s housing a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 under the bonnet that can produce 510hp and 700Nm. Power is sent to the rear wheels only, and it weighs in at 1,800kg. When new it costs around £78,000, but given it’s the old gen, you can’t even buy one anymore! So will it be a clean sweep for the more powerful BMW? There’s only one way to find out… LET’S RACE! It’s taking on the BMW M4, with its 3.0-litre, turbo, straight-six engine and 431hp, and the 510hp, 4.0-litre, twin-turbo V8-powered Mercedes-AMG C63 S! Finally, the fateful day is here! #C63 S E Performance driven on the windy roads of Malaga in Spain. No excuses of unfinished software, production vehicles, or anything else: today, truly is judgement day for the new four-cylinder hybrid version of our favourite #AMG. I will first recount the history of the name, because today’s topic is of Identity. Mercedes might remind you of the 190E that Senna made famous on the Nurburgring, another 4 cylinder super saloon. But the legend of the real C63 truly begins from the W204 series and it’s 6.2 litre mega engine - a naturally aspirated unit also found in legends like the SLS AMG and the GT3 racing cars. Ingrained in my memory is Jeremy Clarkson coming up behind Richard Hammond in the ax murderer with headlights, something that left a huge impression on my young mind. Years later, I’ve now owned 12 of these incredible mg machines. Headlined by the 506 and C63 Black Series - this was the first step, and a hard act to follow. Despite our fears of turbocharging, the W205 proved to be an incredible car with superb sound, particularly in low speeds. The C63 Coupe stands out as the best, with a unique body and epic handling. This one is totally different. No RWD, No V8. It’s a 680 BHP 4 cylinder engine, aka the M139L First found in the A45. In here, that engine is switched longitudinally, and we add to it the MGU H electric gas turbocharger from the AMG ONE, with a big AMG performance battery and an electric motor on the rear. This is the so called P3 hybrid system. The 0-60 is claimed at 3.4seconds - I absolutely smashed that figure, as you’ll see! We also have to talk about the Boost mode, and why it’s strange. The new Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E PERFORMANCE (combined fuel consumption, weighted: 6.9 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions, weighted: 156 g/km; combined electric energy consumption, weighted: 11.7 kWh/100 km)1 is a real game changer in the 55-year history of AMG. With know-how from Formula 1™, it brings state-of-the-art technologies from motorsport to the road. A two-speed electric motor positioned on the rear axle supports the 2.0-litre turbo engine that is mounted longitudinally at the front. This is the most powerful production four-cylinder in the world. Power delivery and torque build-up occur very spontaneously and without delay: as in Formula 1™, the electric support of the exhaust gas turbocharger eliminates the turbo lag of the combustion engine, while at the same time the electric drive pushes powerfully from a standstill. The electric powertrain and the high-performance battery with 400 volts are AMG-exclusive, in-house developments.
