10 Incredible Houses You Won’t Believe Exist If you're new, Subscribe! → 🤍 They say “Home is Where You Make It” - whether it’s a simple hut by the beach, a floating home on the ocean or even a treehouse, home can be anything you want it to be. It is that one place where you come to rest and unwind after a stressful day. It’s a place that you can share with your loved ones or escape from the crowds when you need to. While some of us have pretty traditional houses, some people out there have gotten very creative at making their homes and came up with ideas that are out of this world! Today we’ll be looking at 10 Incredible Houses You Won’t Believe Exist. We’ll have a bit of everything when it comes to living spaces: big and small, wide and narrow, above cliffs and even underwater! Stay tuned all the way to the end and don’t miss my number one pick! It’s a house that I’m one hundred percent sure you didn’t know it exists. So, let’s begin! The House on The Rock When we think of houses surrounded by water, we either think of boats or island living. Well, the first unique house of this list is in the middle of the water, but it’s standing on a rock. You can find it on the Drina river in Serbia. It got people’s attention after being mentioned in big publications such as the Daily Mail and National Geographic. If you think that having a house on top of a rock is impressive enough, wait until you hear the story behind it. It all happened back in 1968 when a group of friends, tired of swimming against the current of the Drina River, decided to get some rest on top of the rock. They immediately got bothered by the rough surface of the rock and went back to the shore to bring back some boards on which they could lay on. Right after that, they decided to put the boards vertically and use them as cover. And just like that, this group of boys came up with the idea for a house on top of a rock. The house is now one of Serbia’s most treasured places. It’s a great spot to connect with nature, enjoying the river and the forest around. Keret House I told you we have some narrow houses on this list. Well, ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce you to: Keret House, the narrowest house in the world! This space was created by Jakub Szczesny, a Polish Architect who claims this is the world’s narrowest house with only 122 centimeters long at its widest point. And don’t let the looks fool you - this house is narrow, but this attribute is what makes it so space efficient and interesting. According to Szczesny, all the furniture had to be perfectly customized and pushed to fit into this space. It is designed for one single inhabitant, for someone who likes to work and stay at home! More specifically, this house is designed for traveling writers who need their own space. I guess that makes sense. One flight of stairs takes you into the study room and bathroom, and a ladder leads you up to the bedroom. What else can a writer need? It’s definitely narrow, but the architect definitely made it quite cozy and inviting. Who would have thought you could fit a house into such a small space? While the house was intended to stay up for just two years, it is already a Warsaw Icon and a landmark on the tourist maps for visitors of this Polish city. Berson House is a builders house that challenges the traditional narrative of a home in terms of structure, materiality and purpose. Drawing on the impactful nature of unique and unusual interior spaces, Monster Ideas Architects turns an existing pre-1945 house into a bold, multi-functional home. Solidifying its strong approach from the outset, Berson House’s façade stands out in Norman Park with its geometric and demanding street presence. Craig Webster from Monster Ideas Architects overcomes initial barriers with ingenuity, tasked with a steep, challenging site in an uninhabitable state. While the new development was limited to two levels, this was overcome by moving the form up the slope of the site to create a large-scale, five-storey structure. As the builders house, the design aspires to do something different and daring. Along with three children’s bedrooms, each with its own ensuite, a wine cellar and an isolated retreat for the parents, each level hosts a range of distinct features, including a two-storey climbing wall, an indoor soccer field and a 20-metre lap pool. The pool is thoughtfully integrated with the lower floors and has been punctuated with beautiful large windows so you can see the pool from the street, the kid's bedrooms and the wine cellar. Materiality and furnishings keep with the bold, unorthodox theme of the builders house – contemporary, modern injections dominate alongside darker, moody tones. Tongue & Groove’s natural grade European Oak Timber in a narrow-board style is used for soffit lining and bathroom ceilings, with wider boards installed on the floors. These timber planks are also incorporated into the custom dining table in the wine cellar. The Tongue & Groove timber supports the dark interior by injecting warmth into the space, counterbalancing the coldness of the concrete and the sharpness of the black, charred ironbark timber walls. Spatial dimensions within the builders house have been re-engineered to welcome a modern lifestyle. Every part of Berson House is about maximising space and removing corridors. For example, the living, dining, kitchen and terrace are each a quadrant. The home’s elevated position helps connect the house to the surrounding panoramic views of suburbia in one direction and across the city to the west. In a way, the residence becomes transparent, with large windows and doors featured heavily throughout, which also welcome in light and provide ventilation. Berson House evokes an experience of the home that is unlike any other. It is simultaneously refined, playful, bold and innovative. This builders house seamlessly re-invents a bygone house into something that is daringly modern and willing to make a statement. 00:00 - Introduction to the Builders House 00:36 - Doing Something Different 01:03 - The Brief and the Unusual Site 01:26 - A Walkthrough and the Layout of the Home 02:30 - Maximising the Space 02:57 - The 20m Lap Pool 03:22 - The Adult Retreat 03:50 - Tongue and Groove Interior Materials 04:17 - Materials Used Within the Home 04:54 - Proud Aspects and Moments For more from The Local Project: Instagram – 🤍 Website – 🤍 Print Publication – 🤍 Hardcover Book – 🤍 The Local Project Marketplace – 🤍 To subscribe to The Local Project's Tri-Annual Print Publication see here – 🤍 Photography by Brock Beazley Photography. Located about an hour outside Amsterdam is a village of spherical homes straight out of your futuristic fantasies. From a distance, Bolwoningen’s domes appear to be a set of golf balls, but up close, they are the architectural masterpiece of Dutch artist and sculptor Dries Kreijkamp. Built in 1984, each home contains three levels with round windows that give view to the scenic canal. The intent of the complex was to bring residents closer to nature. Although the designer has since passed, his legacy continues to live on in. SUBSCRIBE: 🤍 This story is a part of our Planet Earth series. Top 10 of the weirdest designs in world when it comes to architecture in public buildings and museums. Subscribe to our channel: 🤍 Other Videos You Might Like: 10 Most Dangerous Roads In The World: 🤍 The Most Dangerous Selfies Ever Taken: 🤍 Description: We love to design and build things. Take a look around any town or city and you’ll see a wide range of buildings and structures, each with its own unique characteristics and each meant to fill a role in our lives. Sure there are the usual houses and apartments that you can find almost anywhere, but chances are there are at least a couple very distinct buildings that stand out from the rest. Perhaps it’s that extravagant mansion down the road, the new recreation center built downtown or the futuristic looking school that your kids go to. For good or bad, these buildings stand out because they often represent the cutting edge of design and construction. Despite what that bland and newly constructed subdivision across the way might suggest to you, humans are always pushing the limits when it comes to designing and building things. On an everyday basis, think of the all-glass skyscrapers which have popped up so dominantly among the skylines of the world’s cities. These took over from massive concrete high-rises which, themselves, replaced stone and brick office buildings. Even the traditional apartment building is transformed from a conventionally shaped rectangle to a structure which can feature numerous twists and bends. Changes in design and building materials can not only be meant to add a modern look to a city but also replace the bland and colorless features we often associate with traditional style high-rises. On a bigger scale, we have designed and built some truly impressive buildings over the last several decades. From the 2717 foot Burj Khalifa in Dubai to One World Trade Center in New York to the CN tower in Toronto, the list of impressive buildings is quite long. In fact, across the globe we have constructed dozens of buildings which are nearly 1000 feet or more in height. Fuelled by technology and the competition between designers and nations, these buildings are notable because of their sheer size. Given the rate of constructing these giant buildings over the last 15 years alone, the trend of building bigger and higher doesn’t look like it’s anywhere near ending. While there are many massive and tall buildings which have captured our imaginations over the years, this video doesn’t look at them. Instead, this video looks at some of the strangest buildings ever created around the world. These structures represent some of the extremes of construction and engineering. Perhaps more importantly, they represents the extremes of artists and architectural design. From family dwellings to centers of business, from libraries to the just plain inexplicable, ahead you’ll find a wide range of strange designs. Some will definitely leave you amazed while others will likely leave you wondering why on earth someone would build something so strange. In any event, after seeing some of these creations, you might just appreciate living across the way from that bland, newly built subdivision which lacks any sort of character. After all, as you’ll see in a couple instances we look at ahead, it could be a lot worse. From a house shaped like a toilet to an upside down house, these are 13 of the most shocking homes from around the world! Subscribe for weekly wacky videos and learn interesting facts about the world with awesome top 10 lists and other amazing videos. 8 - House On A Rock – The Drina River in Serbia is where one of the strangest and tiniest houses on our list sits a house perched on a rock. The house is over 40 years old and has weathered the Serbian elements to remain standing. Built in 1969, the house came to be when a group of boys were looking for a place to lay out in the sun and discovered the rock. Realizing it would be a great place to build the structure, the boys constructed the one bedroom house and it’s been there ever since. 7 – Bubble House – Selected to be an historic monument by the French Ministry of Culture even though its not even 40 years old. The house was designed by an organic architect named Antti Lovag and has sprawling views of the Mediterranean Sea. The convex windows and peculiar shape made it truly bizarre. The focal point of the house is the garden at the center that features a waterfall and stream. Exotic vegetation line the garden and the interior is fitted with built in furniture, shelving and cupboards. 6 - upside down house – This Upside Down House looks like a movie set – but it’s not! Located in Poland, the upside down house was created by Daniel Czapiewski – a Polish businessman. The house has become one of the largest tourist attractions in Poland, although tourists have complained of motion sickness and nausea upon entering. The interior of the house is fully furnished and decorated, with everything bolted to the ceiling to keep with its theme. There is a pretty profound message behind the house – Daniel was trying to make a statement about the state of the world, namely the Communist era. The house took longer to build because the workers kept getting disoriented by the upside down design. 5 - Boeing 727 Hotel – Though technically a hotel and not a house, it’s just too cool not to mention. The 1965 Boeing 727 frame used for this hotel was salvaged from San Jose and carefully brought to Costa Rica. The hotel consists of two bedrooms with their own private baths, a kitchenette, dining area, private entrance and ocean view terrace. It’s completed fitted with Costa Rican teak paneling and hand carved teak furniture. From the terrace, the only neighbors visible are the monkeys, toucans and sloths. 4 - Flintstones House – Well, this house may look familiar. TV personality Dick Clark had actually been the one to fight to have this home built. Located in Malibu California, the house is situated on 23 acres and needed to look like a rock formation to blend into the surroundings in order for Dick Clark to get permission to build on the wild site. The home is a one bedroom, two bath, with an interior covered in steel and wood. The huge glass windows offer 360 degree views of the surrounding Santa Monica Mountains. The house was recently sold by Clark’s widow for $1.78 million. 3 - Soccer Ball House – Not only is this soccer ball house located in Japan but it’s also apparently disaster proof. The house has 32 sides and is structurally designed to withstand earthquakes. This house is apparently a hot commodity and is popping up all over Japan, ranging in size from large all the way down to doghouses. The interior consists of one small room with a fireplace in the middle. The neat thing about this home is you can combine several units together to create a number of configurations. 2 - The Keret House – Not only is this structure a house, it’s also an art installation. Designed by the architect Jakub Szczesny in 2012, the Keret House measures just around 3 feet by 5 feet. It consists of two floors and has a kitchen one bedroom, a living area and bathroom. To get from the first floor to the second floor, the residents have to climb a ladder. To enter the house you’d need to use retractable stairs that turn into the living space when closed. Located in Warsaw, the Keret House was built between two buildings and the designer considers it a tribute to his family were killed during World War II. 1 - toilet shaped house – The question isn’t does it exist.. The question is WHY does it exist? And there’s actually a very interesting answer to that question. Built by the late mayor of Suwon South Korea, Sim Jae-Duck the purpose was to bring awareness to clean and working sanitation. He was born in a bathroom and has made it his mission in life to be an advocate for the 2 billion people in this world living without toilets. The house is 4520 square feet of concrete, steel and glass and cost $1.1 million to build. The focal point of the house is an obvious one – it’s a glass walled bathroom in which the walls become opaque when a button is pushed.

For curated weekly home and interior inspiration, sign up to The Modern House newsletter: 🤍 “I think I’m a bit of a hoarder,” says Charlotte Taylor softly, as she runs her fingers through a bag of some 600 lighters. “These have become such an obsession that even my business card is a lighter.” This collecting habit of hers has made our visit to her home in the suburbs of London all the more interesting. Every white-walled space is filled with intriguing objects galore – from impractical wooden tools to piles of sudoku books (“I have them in every single room of my house, even the bathroom”). But think again if you’re imagining nooks and crannies crammed with thoughtless knick-knacks. Charlotte’s interiors are highly considered and beautifully curated, defined by a palette of calming neutrals.
