Meet the brand New BMW 5 Series & BMW i5! This is the first 5 Series that’s been designed to come with an internal combustion engine as well as a pure electric car, so let’s find out everything you need to know about these all-new cars! Starting with the design, there’s very little difference between petrol-powered and electric cars. Both cars come with a wide double-kidney grille, and they’re available with traditional vertical bar designs or in all-black for M Sport trim levels. Along the side, you’ll find flush door handles and creases across the doors that seem pretty reminiscent of the E-Class, while at the back there’s a whole load of black trim across the rear bumper, and the brake lights come in an all-new design. Step inside and the new 5 Series reminds us of the 7 Series! There’s a huge widescreen infotainment system on the dash, which you can even use to connect to your Amazon Alexa account! The dashboard is available to be styled in aluminium, carbon fibre or wood trim, as well as an optional panoramic glass roof! All in all, the interior of the 5 Series and i5 is super smart! Then we come to the choice of engines. For those wanting to stick with an internal combustion engine, there’s not a whole lot of choice at the moment, with just one petrol engine available - the mild-hybrid 520i comes with a 2-litre 4 cylinder engine and an electric motor which combine to produce 208hp and 330Nm. Plug-in hybrid cars are also on the horizon, but won’t be released until 2024. However, for those choosing the i5, there are two options available, with the range-topper being the i5 M60. This comes with two electric motors which combine to produce 601hp - just 24hp less than an M5 Competition! What’s more, it also produces an immense 820Nm - 70Nm more than the M5! When it comes to the price, the petrol-powered 5 Series starts from just under £50,000, while the i5 starts from £73,200, rising all the way up to £97,000 for the i5 M60! So is it worth it? 2024 BMW 5 Series vs Old BMW 5 Series - G60 vs G30 Side by Side Comparison. BMW 5 Series G60 vs G30 – the new, larger sedan vs the previous generation! This is comparison side-by-side of the new G60 BMW 5 Series and the sedan it will replace, the G30 5 Series. The seventh-generation G30 was unveiled back in a little under seven years ago in 2016, and the blue example you see here is the facelift that debut in May 2020, the G60’s immediate predecessor. BMW 5 series G30 is perfect in balancing elegance and sportiness, and plus the superb drive. The length of the sedan of the eighth generation (G60) is 5060 mm, width - 1900 mm height - 1515 mm. The wheelbase has been increased by 20 mm to 2995 mm. So, the new 5 Series (G60) is 97 mm longer and 32 mm wider than the G30. The new sedan is also 36 mm taller and its 2995 mm wheelbase is 20 mm longer, which means that most of the newly-added length goes into the overhangs. It’s not just overall height that’s up, but the front fascia is now taller. Also, the 5 new Series escapes the huge nostrils that we see on bigger models like the 7 Series and X7. The sides of the G60 appear cleaner (flush door handles too), but without the G30’s strong crease of a tornado line and “hockey stick” (replaced by a gentle upward curve) to break up the visual mass. So the side profile look a tad tall. At the back, the traditional BMW sedan tail lamps on the G30 has been slimmed down to almost a straight line, as previewed by the latest G70 7 Series. Also like the Seven is the badging – big 5, small variant number. Speaking of that, the big ‘5’ on the “Hoffmeister kink” is a new cue. Lastly, no visible exhaust pipes even on the ICE model. As for the new interior, it’s a big shift from the G30’s familiar cockpit (which looks really old in comparison), but with zero surprises. The conjoined wide screen layout is as per the new 7 Series, but note that the screen and centre stack is angled towards the driver, as opposed to being flat on the limo. Also, BMW’s longstanding joystick gear lever makes way for a stubby selector. So, what do you think of the new BMW G60 5 Series versus the G30?

BMW has pulled the wraps off an all-new 5 Series generation dubbed the G60. The big news is that it's bigger than before and available as the fully-electric i5. The vehicle we were shown at the local unveiling in Romania was the base 520i model without the M pack, but it actually look pretty good and it was well received by those present at the event. Its exterior design is sure to polarize opinions, but its interior is stunning and BMW say it's just as engaging and fun to drive as the smaller 3 Series. Привет друзья. Трон бизнес класса опять зашатало, на него опять взобрались два лидера. С одним из них мы уже успели познакомиться. Это Mersedes E класса. Второй уже в пути и готов занять место под солнцем. Предыдущему поколению пятёрки благодаря своей спортивности и элегантности, хорошо настроенному шасси и отличным моторам удалось завоевать любовь у своих поклонников. Но всё ли так однозначно с новой пятёркой и уготовлен ли ей звёздный путь или всё-же её путь к звёздам лежит через тернии. Не знаю почему, но новую Bmw 5 я воспринимаю не как последователя предыдущего поколения G30, а как духовную наследницу поколения Е60. Пятёрку BMW E60 можно любить, можно ненавидеть, но это был знаковый автомобиль в истории марки BMW. Новая BMW 5 приходит не в простое время, и тут нужно понимать, что ей придётся сражаться одновременно на двух полигонах: традиционном, где по прежнему ревут, пусть уже и не такие объёмистые, но всё же старые добрые двигатели внутреннего сгорания , а второй - это динамично развивающийся рынок электромобилей. Учитывая, что BMW построена на традиционной тележке Clar, ей придётся нелегко. С другой стороны я разделяю стратегию BMW, которая предполагает, что рынок электро автомобилей наберёт обороты к 2030 году, когда уже вовсю будут щеголять новенькие BMW i на новенькой платформе NEW CLASS. Развязка не за горами. А пока давайте разбираться с новой пятёркой. Новая пятерка BMW: отличная, но не электрическаяплатформа, никаких вертикальных ноздрей, больше технологий, развлечений, электричества и опций. Оправдала ожидания или нет?

A clear and reduced design language emphasises the new 5 Series Sedan’s sporty elegance and presence. Compared to the predecessor model, the new edition has grown in length by 97 millimetres, in width by 32 millimetres, in height by 36 millimetres and its wheelbase was lengthened by 20 millimetres. The front view of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan is characterised by a modern interpretation of the twin headlights and BMW kidney grille. LED elements arranged almost vertically serve as turn indicators and daytime driving lights. The BMW kidney grille, which projects far forward, features a wide surround and optional BMW Iconic Glow contour lighting. In the side view, the high shoulder line, powerfully designed surfaces and two precisely traced character lines shape the vehicle’s athletic body. Black side skirts, flush-mounted door openers and an embossed number 5 at the base of the C-pillar are further eye-catchers. The dynamically stretched proportions flow into a powerful rear end. Flat rear lights divided by a chrome strip interpret the hallmark L-shape expressively. The dynamic character of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan can be further enhanced with the optional M Sport Package and the M Sport Package Pro. Generous space, modern functionality, a high level of acoustic comfort as well as high-quality, precisely processed materials, fine workmanship and advanced digital services characterise the ambience in its interior. The cockpit of the new BMW 5 Series has a significantly reduced number of buttons and controls compared to the predecessor model. This is achieved by consistently digitalising functions. The BMW Curved Display reinterprets the brand's hallmark idea of driver orientation. The fully digital display system consists of a 12.3-inch Information Display and a 14.9-inch Control Display. The steering wheel has also been redesigned with a flattened lower section and haptic feedback on the control panels, and the selector lever on the centre console. The optional BMW Interaction Bar is another highlight. The effectively backlit functional unit with crystalline surface structure extends across the entire width of the instrument panel far into the door panels and includes touch-sensitive control panels. Newly designed sports seats are standard equipment. The optional comfort seats offer a wide range of electrically operated adjustment options. The new BMW 5 Series Sedan is the brand's first model to feature a fully vegan interior as standard. This includes the surfaces of the seats, the dashboard and the door panels, as well as the steering wheel for the first time. The all-electric BMW i5 is equipped with extensively enhanced fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology and is being launched in two variants. The BMW i5 M60 xDrive and the BMW i5 eDrive40. Petrol and diesel engines from the new modular generation of BMW Group Efficient Dynamics engines will be offered in a market-specific selection. The car has of course grown in size by 9CM length, 3.5 width and slightly in height. The i5 is powered by a 81.2kw battery, and the 5th Generation E Drive technology as seen in the new i7 and IX models. Our entry level BMW i5 eDrive40 is a rear wheel drive EV, with 340BHP, 430NM and 0-60 in 6.1 seconds using sport boost feature. And range of up to 582km! The red pepper here is the M60, and the top of the 5 pillar with 598BHP, 794NM in Sport Mode or 820NM in M Sport Boost or launch control, where 60 is reached in 3.8 seconds. Range is claimed at 516km but will likely be less, and fast charging is of course there, and you can add 156KM in 10 mins charge only! But as I said, fear not as we have combustion versions too. These are all 48 volt mild hybrids, like the 520i - 208BHP, and 520d and Drive version - diesels sadly not in the UK anymore, but available in other territories. All combustion cars come with a new 8 speed steptronic, and we can expect Plug In Hybrids next year! New 5 Series Price in the UK BMW 520i sDrive – priced from £49,850 RRP estimated BMW i5 eDrive40 – priced from £73,200 RRP estimated BMW i5 M60 xDrive – priced from £96,840 RRP estimated As for model specific changes in the 5 - we have a wheel slip limiter closer to actuator for quicker reactions, and now sport steering with variable ratio is standard. Get the adaptive pro chassis option, and you get the integral steering upgrade — this comes standard on the M60 with electronically controlled shock absorbers and roll stabilisation. We also have rear wheel steer up to 2.5 degrees. I love the design - traditional sports sedan. The grille is thankfully normal, but with the new BMW iconic glow in the grille - optional in some territories. The front arrow lights are really reminiscent of E60 lights to me, and the rest of the M sport package very much like the new 3 Series LCI. A touring model also coming in 2024, and we will also get a New M5 - Hybrid Powered, likely using the set up that debuted in the XM. That means the updated 4.4 V8, and the M Hybrid system combining a Permanently excited synchronous motor inserted inside the 8 Speed. And an additional 25.7 kw battery which is good for some sole electric drive - but the question is what power and weight will it be? Time will tell. The interior is epic - basically a reduced 7 Series with the BMW interaction bar, new steering wheel, and the new 8.5 operating system. Engine, Transmission, and Performance : For 2024, the 5-series will be offered only in 530i and 540i guises, with the former getting a 255-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder and either rear- or all-wheel drive. The 540i comes with all-wheel drive standard as well as a 375-hp turbocharged inline-six. Both are augmented by a 48-volt hybrid system. BMW says the 540i should be powerful enough to hit 60 mph in 4.5 seconds. A plug-in hybrid powertrain is expected to arrive for the 2025 model year. Lows Some rivals offer more grandeur inside, most desirable features are pricey, driver involvement has fallen off the menu. Verdict Those expecting sports sedan friskiness will be disappointed, but the 5-series is a comfortable and classy executive-class sedan. Overview Earlier generations of the BMW 5-series set benchmarks for sports-sedan road manners that we still refer to when evaluating ride and handling. But years before the 2023 5-series arrived this model moved on to a more comfort-focused mission. BMW’s executive sedan looks upscale without being ostentatious, and that stealthy appearance provides some respite from constabulary scrutiny. And that’s a good thing, especially if you order the turbocharged inline-six 540i or twin-turbo V-8 M550i models, which can hit 60 mph in 4.7 seconds and 3.5 seconds, respectively. Looking for a 5-series with a more relaxed personality? The entry-level 530i and plug-in hybrid 530e, both four-cylinder-powered, offer adequate punch and also the benefit of better fuel economy. No matter the trim, the 5-series offers plenty of space for passengers and a list of luxury and technology features that keep pace with rivals such as the Audi A6, Genesis G80, and Mercedes-Benz E-class. The fiver’s handling might not be the sharpest, but it can waft down the road as effortlessly as any mid-size luxury cruiser. What's New for 2023? The 5-series sedan carries over to the 2023 model year largely unchanged. The optional Premium package now includes a remote-start feature but no longer includes the company’s gimmicky gesture controls for the iDrive infotainment system. The Parking Assistance package is no longer available on 530i, 530e, and 540i models but the Executive package is now available for those cars and includes a head-up display, a Harman/Kardon stereo system, a power-operated trunk lid, and heated front seats among other items. The top-spec M550i now comes with a power rear sunshade. Three new colors—Artic Race Blue, Skyscraper Grey, and Aventurin—are now available. Pricing and Which One to Buy 530i: $56,995 530e: $58,595 540i: $63,895 M550i: $82,495 The mid-range 540i continues to be the best value in the 5-series lineup, offering a nice balance of performance and comfort. This model comes standard with rear-wheel drive, but all-wheel drive is available. The available Convenience package seems like a wise add-on, as it includes heated front seats and a power-operated trunk lid. Engine, Transmission, and Performance Smooth, powerful, and efficient, both the four-cylinder in the 530i and the six-cylinder in the 540i motivate this big sedan with authority. The 540i's powertrain benefits from a little extra boost, care of a 48-volt hybrid system. Each engine pairs with an eight-speed automatic transmission that shifts intuitively and quickly, making the most of the available power. The 540i's six-cylinder is silky smooth and potent, and it makes delightful noises. Apart from the top-dog M5, which we review separately, the M550i is the athlete of the lineup, with a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 under its hood. In our testing, the M550i sprinted through our acceleration runs quicker than the Audi S6 and Mercedes-AMG E53, hitting 60 mph in just 4.1 seconds. All 5-series models are competent handlers, but they lack the kind of driving verve we expect from BMW. Steering feedback is light, and the ride—even in the performance-oriented M550i—appears to be tuned more for comfort than driver involvement. Interior, Comfort, and Cargo Rich appointments and good design make the cockpit of the 5-series a civilized space. It's a noticeable upgrade compared with the somewhat drab cabin of its predecessor. It's also spacious for rear-seat passengers and features an impressive amount of technology. We've experienced the optional 20-way multi-contour front seats, which adjust in every way imaginable and provide hours of comfort. The standard seats might not be as indulgent, but you can still adjust them in 16 ways. The BMW's large trunk space is on par with what its competitors offer, fitting six carry-on suitcases back there. That said, the cabin is lacking in cubbies and storage compartments. To accommodate the battery pack, the plug-in-hybrid 530e has four fewer cubic feet of trunk space than nonhybrid models and swallows two fewer carry-on suitcases, but at least it retains its folding rear seats, unlike many other hybrids. Привет друзья. И разразился гром во вселенной и молнии паутиной осветили небо и случилось наконец-то событие которого мы все так ждали. BMW представила главного претендента на трон лучшего бизнес-седана современности – это новая 5 серия в кузове G60 С его главным конкурентом Mercedes E class мы уже познакомились – но вот сможет ли пятерка устоят перед таким сильным конкурентом? Давайте разбираться. Первое что вам нужно знать о новинке – пятерка как и семерка, будет предлагаться в виде двух линеек. Одна будет верна традициям и подарит вам рев и вибрации двигателя внутреннего сгорания, а вторая предлагает альтернативный путь – электрические моторы. Исходя из того какой вариант вы выберете, будет зависеть внешний вид вашего ненаглядного автомобиля. Разница не будет разительной, но если вас напрягают пластиковые заглушки вместо привычной решетки радиатора, дурацкие синие акценты которые BMW везде сует, это может быть проблемой. Но давайте абстрагируемся от мелких различий и сконцентрируемся на общем виде восьмого поколения пятерки. Кузов G60 принес с собой много чего из прошлого, я говорю о передней оптике, уж больно она похожа на ту, что использовалась в кузове Е60. Не обошлось без современных тенденций, ввиде дневных ходовых огней в стиле обновленной тройки и многоугольных ноздрей. Ноздри стали больше, но на столько чтобы не вызывать чувство отторжения и выглядеть чем то новым и необычным. Скульптурный капот добавляет мускулистости образу автомобиля, а новый передний бампер в духе последних электрических моделей компании выглядит немного нелепо из-за крохотных боковых пластиковых заглушек, радует что на бензиновых моделях таких проблем нет, там свой бампер с воздуховодами и полноценная решетка радиатора с вертикальными ламелями.
2024 BMW 5 Series vs Mercedes E-Class Comparison Visual Driving, Exterior & Interior Design Overview The new Mercedes E-Class and BMW 5 Series are luxury business-class sedans that have many fans around the world and have been competing in the market for years, introducing new technology, innovation and modern design, gradually moving from internal combustion engines to electric drive. While Mercedes offers its luxury sedans on fully hybrid systems, BMW looks far ahead and offers not only hybrid versions of sedans, but also their fully electric versions. With their long bonnet, set-back passenger compartment, short overhangs, a long wheelbase and wide tracks, the proportions of the Mercedes E-Class and BMW 5-Series make no secret of the cars' dynamic character. The 5 Series is 111 mm longer with 34 mm longer wheelbase, and also 20 mm wider than the E-Class. The front view of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan is characterised by a modern interpretation of the twin headlights and BMW kidney grille. LED elements arranged almost vertically serve as turn indicators and daytime driving lights. The BMW kidney grille, which projects far forward, features a wide surround and optional BMW Iconic Glow contour lighting. A black panel-like surface of the E- Class connects the radiator grille with the headlamps. This insert in high-gloss black is visually reminiscent of the Mercedes-EQ models. The three-dimensionally designed radiator grille is either progressive or classic, depending on the equipment line. All headlamp variants offer a distinctive day and night design. As a typical feature of the brand, the daytime running lights take the shape of an eyebrow. Powerdomes accentuate the bonnet. In the side view, the high shoulder line, powerfully designed surfaces and two precisely traced character lines shape the vehicle’s athletic body of the BMW 5 Series. Black side skirts, flush-mounted door openers and an embossed number 5 at the base of the C-pillar are further eye-catchers. The side view of the E-class shows off the harmonious proportions and the distinctive "cab-backward" design to particularly good effect. The flush-fitting door handles familiar from the luxury Mercedes-Benz models are available as an option. The two separate character lines on the side emphasise the car's sporty character. The dynamically stretched proportions of the 5 Series flow into a powerful rear end. Flat rear lights divided by a chrome strip interpret the hallmark L-shape expressively. The dynamic character of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan can be further enhanced with the optional M Sport Package and the M Sport Package Pro. Highlights at the rear of the E-Class include the two-section LED lights with a new contour and special design: the star motif in both light units provides a special day and night design. The chrome strip at the upper edge of the rear lights accentuate the width of the rear. Details such as the two visible exhaust tailpipes contribute to an unmistakable appearance that is typical of a Mercedes-Benz. The cockpit of the new BMW 5 Series has a significantly reduced number of buttons and controls compared to the predecessor model. This is achieved by consistently digitalising functions. The BMW Curved Display reinterprets the brand's hallmark idea of driver orientation. The fully digital display system consists of a 12.3-inch Information Display and a 14.9-inch Control Display. The optional BMW Interaction Bar is another highlight. The effectively backlit functional unit with crystalline surface structure extends across the entire width of the instrument panel far into the door panels and includes touch-sensitive control panels. The dashboard makes for the digital experience in the interior . If the E-Class is equipped with the optional front passenger screen, the large glass surface of the MBUX Superscreen extends to the central display. Visually detached from this is the driver's display in the driver's field of vision. The models without a passenger display feature a large trim element that extends to the centre. The front section of the instrument panel is illuminated by the light strip of the Active Ambient Lighting. This runs in a wide arc from the windscreen, past the A-pillars and into the doors. This creates a generous feeling of space. The new BMW 5 Series Sedan is the brand's first model to feature a fully vegan interior as standard. This includes the surfaces of the seats, the dashboard and the door panels, as well as the steering wheel for the first time. Newly designed sports seats are standard equipment. The optional comfort seats offer a wide range of electrically operated adjustment options. Numerous E-Class components are made partly from resource-saving materials, recyclates and renewable raw materials. the new 5 Series Sedan’s sporty elegance and presence. Compared to the predecessor model, the new edition has grown in length by 97 millimetres to 5,060 millimetres, in width by 32 millimetres to 1,900 millimetres and in height by 36 millimetres to 1,515 millimetres. Its wheelbase was lengthened by 20 millimetres to 2,995 millimetres. The front view of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan is characterised by a modern interpretation of the twin headlights and BMW kidney grille. LED elements arranged almost vertically serve as turn indicators and daytime driving lights. The BMW kidney grille, which projects far forward, features a wide surround and optional BMW Iconic Glow contour lighting. In the side view, the high shoulder line, powerfully designed surfaces and two precisely traced character lines shape the vehicle’s athletic body. Black side skirts, flush-mounted door openers and an embossed number 5 at the base of the C-pillar are further eye-catchers. The dynamically stretched proportions flow into a powerful rear end. Flat rear lights divided by a chrome strip interpret the hallmark L-shape expressively. The dynamic character of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan can be further enhanced with the optional M Sport Package and the M Sport Package Pro. The range of paintwork already includes three BMW Individual paint finishes at market launch. The new BMW 5 Series Sedan offers ideal conditions for enjoying hallmark BMW driving pleasure in everyday traffic and a high level of comfort on long-distance journeys. Generous space, modern functionality, a high level of acoustic comfort as well as high-quality, precisely processed materials, fine workmanship and advanced digital services characterise the ambience in its interior. The cockpit of the new BMW 5 Series has a significantly reduced number of buttons and controls compared to the predecessor model. This is achieved by consistently digitalising functions. The BMW Curved Display reinterprets the brand's hallmark idea of driver orientation. The fully digital display system consists of a 12.3-inch Information Display and a 14.9-inch Control Display. The steering wheel has also been redesigned with a flattened lower section and haptic feedback on the control panels, and the selector lever on the centre console. The optional BMW Interaction Bar is another highlight. The effectively backlit functional unit with crystalline surface structure extends across the entire width of the instrument panel far into the door panels and includes touch-sensitive control panels. The all-electric BMW i5 is equipped with extensively enhanced fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology and is being launched in two variants. The BMW i5 M60 xDrive (combined power consumption according to WLTP: 20.6 - 18.2 kWh/100 km (62 miles)), which combines an up to 442 kW/601 hp drive with hallmark M performance and specific design features. Two highly integrated drive units on the front and rear axles make up an electric all-wheel drive. The system torque generated is up to 820 Nm (605 lb-ft) when M Sport Boost or the M Launch Control function is activated. This enables the BMW i5 M60 to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.8 seconds, its top speed is electrically limited to 230 km/h (143 mph). The BMW i5 eDrive40 (combined power consumption according to WLTP: 18.9 - 15.9 kWh/100 km (62 mph)) is also available. Its electric motor drives the rear wheels and generates a maximum output of 250 kW/340 hp and a maximum torque of up to 430 Nm (317 lb-ft) with Sport Boost or Launch Control function. 2024 BMW i5 Starting at $67.795 Overview BMW's executive express is going electric with the mid-size 2024 i5 sedan, which will fill the gap between the 10Best award-winning i4 and the extra-premium i7 flagship. Like those two EV four-doors, the i5 is expected to blend driving pleasure with upscale creature comforts. Two powertrains are coming, starting with a rear-drive eDrive40 model with 335 horsepower. The dual-motor M60 xDrive boosts horsepower to a stout 590 ponies and provides all-wheel-drive traction. We had a chance to drive a prototype of the latter in France and came away impressed with its athleticism and satisfied with its onboard technology features. The i5 faces a growing number of medium-size luxury electric cars made to court moneyed buyers looking for eco-friendly choices. Among them are the Genesis Electrified G80 and the Mercedes-Benz EQE, as well as segment stalwarts such as the Porsche Taycan and the Tesla Model S. What's New for 2024? Debuting alongside a brand-new generation of the gasoline-powered 5-series, the i5 provides an EV option for those shopping BMW's mid-size sedan lineup. We expect to see it in BMW showrooms before the end of 2023. Pricing and Which One to Buy eDrive40: $67,795 M60 xDrive: $85,095 If you're looking to maximize range, the eDrive40 will be able to sail on for a bit longer than the performance-oriented M60 trim. We're driving enthusiasts, though, and we'd gladly trade a bit of range for extra horsepower and cornering grip. EV Motor, Power, and Performance Two i5 models are offered, starting with the 335-hp eDrive40, which drives the rear wheels via a single electric motor. A hotter M60 xDrive model adds a second electric motor on the front axle for a combined 590 hp. During our initial drive in an i5 M60 prototype, we were impressed by the sedan's agile handling, confidence-inspiring levels of cornering grip, and muscular dual-motor powertrain. BMW says the more powerful of the two powertrains can rocket the i5 to 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds, which from our seat-of-the-pants evaluation seems entirely believable. M60 models also come with active anti-roll bars, a sporty suspension tune, wider tires, and rear-wheel steering, which are all intended to give the car a more athletic feel. Range, Charging, and Battery Life An 84.3-kWh battery pack lies beneath the i5's floorboards, which BMW says holds enough charge to power the eDrive40 model for 295 miles between charges. The dual-motor M60 model is less efficient and carries an estimated range of 256 miles per charge. The car's battery pack can be hooked up to DC fast-charging stations and is said to be capable of charging from 10 to 80 percent in 30 minutes on such a connection. Speaking of charging, BMW will include three years of free 30-minute charging sessions at Electrify America charging stations with every new i5. Fuel Economy and Real-World MPGe The EPA hasn't released fuel economy estimates for the 2024 i5 yet. When we get a chance, we'll take the 5-series on our 75-mph highway fuel economy route and update this story with test results. For more information about the 5-series' fuel economy, visit the EPA's website. Interior, Comfort, and Cargo The i5's cabin is just as spacious and posh as that of the gasoline-powered 5-series. The battery doesn't intrude on cabin space, but trunk space is slightly less generous here than in the 5-series. Leather upholstery is still available, but BMW is launching a new faux-leather upholstery called Veganza in the i5; a set of glass interior controls is also available and adds a classy touch to the sedan's cabin. Heated and ventilated front seats with massage are optional on the eDrive40 and standard on the M60 xDrive. Infotainment and Connectivity The i5's dashboard is dominated by a large, curved panel that incorporates a 12.3-inch digital gauge display as well as a 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen. BMW's latest iDrive 8.5 interface is easy to use and can be updated via over-the-air updates should the need arise for that. A head-up display is optional, but all models come with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, in-dash navigation, a wireless smartphone charging pad, a Harman/Kardon stereo system, and an onboard Wi-Fi hotspot.
